A Brief History of National Service Dog Month

National Service Dog Month was founded by actor and animal advocate Dick Van Patten in 2008. Originally called National Guide Dog Month, Van Patten created the campaign after being inspired by a visit to a guide dog school. Witnessing firsthand the dedication and hard work that goes into training these dogs, he wanted to raise awareness and funds to support the organizations that train and provide service dogs.
